As summer approaches, Finns look to lighter options. Upcider will bring to market two new light ciders for the summer: Upcider Light Strawberry and Upcider Light Blueberry.
Finns continue to enjoy cider. A little over 40 million litres of cider were sold in 2007 (Finnish Food and Drink Industries' Federation, ETL). Light and flavoured ciders are popular in the Finnish cider market. In 2007, flavoured ciders already accounted for 46% of the total cider market. Light ciders are especially popular in the summer season when over half of all cider sales are of light ciders (ACNielsen 2007).
Upcider is expanding its popular range of light ciders. New for this summer are Strawberry and Blueberry, which combine the refreshing taste of berries with a light summery feel. Both ciders have only 30 calories per 100 ml.
“Hartwall is a major cider market innovator. Upcider Natural – launched in 2005 – was one of the first natural Finnish ciders on the market. The environmentally friendly recyclable plastic bottles introduced at the beginning of the year have been extremely well received. We are now expanding our range with berry-flavoured light ciders, which are popular with consumers,” says Pekka Tola, Marketing Manager.
The new Upciders will come in half-litre green cans. Upcider Light Strawberry will also be available in 0.33-litre refillable glass bottles. The ciders will be on sale from 25 March. Another familiar flavour – cranberry – will round out the Upcider berry cider range.
English ciders appealing
From the beginning of March, Bulmers Original will also be available off-trade. This traditional English cider has been available on-trade since last autumn. Bulmers Original is a smooth apple cider with a particularly high fruit content. It comes in 0.568-litre glass bottles.
