Gatorade develops a sports drink especially for women

Gatorade FitnessGatorade Fitness is a sports drink developed with women in mind. It contains the same amount of electrolytes and other vital elements as traditional Gatorade, but with only half the calories. Sports drinks provide an excellent way to stay hydrated during aerobics, dance, spinning, or when jogging.

Gatorade, the world’s leading sports drink manufacturer, will introduce Gatorade Fitness to Finland in April. This sports drink has been developed especially for women. Its refreshing citrus taste is easy on the palate and the drink contains no added preservatives or artificial sweeteners. Gatorade Fitness has half the calories of regular Gatorade without sacrificing any of its hydrating properties.

Correct hydration is vital for women too

“Traditionally, women exercise to stay in good basic shape, to feel good, and to tone our bodies. We tend to think of sports drinks as a men’s thing, and often make do with water during our own workouts,” says Gatorade Brand Manager Suvi Reinikkala.

Reinikkala says that we should not undervalue our own performance – correct fluid balance should be maintained.

“When we sweat, our bodies lose energy and minerals and, as a result, our performance level decreases. We need something more effective than water to maintain our fluid balance,” says Reinikkala.

Gatorade Fitness hydrates and improves performance by replenishing the energy and minerals lost through sweat.

Gatorade Fitness comes in half-litre deposit bottles and will be available from stores and well-stocked sports centres from the beginning of April.

New Gatorade Endurance – a sports drink powder in handy single-serving sachets

PepsiCo will also launch its Gatorade Endurance sports drink powder in Finland. Gatorade Endurance comes in handy sachets and has been developed for those engaging in endurance or other highly physically demanding sports.

“Long distance runners, for example, lose a substantial amount of liquid to sweat, urine and breathing. This leads to an electrolyte deficiency, in particular sodium, which for an individual athlete may equal up to a teaspoonful of salt during a two-hour period,” says Reinikkala.

According to studies conducted at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, maintaining a correct sodium balance is particularly challenging during physically demanding exercise.

“Gatorade Endurance contains significantly more sodium, potassium and magnesium than standard sports drinks. The new drink also has added calcium and chloride to maintain fluid balance in demanding conditions. It therefore provides a better hydration option for those who engage in physically demanding sports,” says Reinikkala.

Gatorade meets consumers’ needs with its expanding range of sports drinks

The number of people exercising is increasing, and more attention than ever is being paid to optimising performance.

“We’re actively developing the Gatorade product family to meet Finnish consumers’ needs. Gatorade Fitness and Gatorade Endurance will help us reach yet more new target groups – women and those engaging in endurance and other physically demanding sports,” says Reinikkala.

Gatorade’s hydration properties have been studied and developed at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute since 1965.
